Flying Unicorn Feb Kit of the Month - OTP Heart Box

We are so excited to reveal to you the February Kit of the Month!

We begin with out MAIN KIT and the INCLUDED off the page project :

This is what I created with the heart box.  It is a large heart, spanning 11.5" x11.5" at it's widest and longest parts.  I think it would make a great place to store wedding photos  or mementos from an anniversary, honeymoon or wedding.

I choose the Prima Stationer's Desk Collection to cover the box because the Stationer's Desk Collection has a great vintage appeal to it - just the touch II was looking to achieve.

I stamped some flourishes but decided to use some Dusty Attic Chipboard as well and ink the chippy to blend it a bit.   I inked it with Clearsnap Mixd Media Inx in Mossy, Vintage, Truffle and Black.

The edges of the box have been inked with Clearsnap Mixd Media Inx as well and then blended with some matte gel medium so that the inks are well blended and smooth  on the box. For the edges I used Mossy, Vintage, and Adobe.
My clustering uses Prima Marketing flowers, some web weave from the Flying Unicorn store and some tulle that ties the box together like a hinge.  The tulle is keeping the box together to make it open like a book.

Just a close up of the chipboard and the web weave topped with some floral berries.

Authentique Precious Collection - Baby Gift Ideas - and Guest Artist

Today I am pleased as punch to be the guest designer for Authentique.

Authentique's Precious Collection
They selected the Precious collection for me to play with and "do my thing".   In this case, my thing turned into some wonderful baby gifts for a boy and  a little girl.   The collection has this versatility as well so I thought I'd showcase both .  It is a vintage baby themed collection.  Very pretty and very soft.   Perfect for any baby occasion; shower, Christening, new born gift, or to use with those wonderful vintage photos that need a special showcasing.

I chose two "off the page" projects to create because  it seems that Authentique papers usually get me in the mood for altered projects.   Something about the fabulous color combinations and the graphics that compel me to grab Authentique paper and make something dimensional.  Besides, dimensional projects are my favorite to complete, so it is fitting that Authentique "speaks" to me this way.

My first project was four mini canvases.  The 5x5 canvases were in the clearance bin at a store for 25 cents each.  You bet I snagged a bunch!   I painted them a soothing antique white as my base to match the vintage appeal of the Precious papers.

You can see each little canvas is decorated differently with little bits of  Blue Fern chipboard and lace, ribbon and tulle, flowers, wooden buttons and floral berries.
Here is a close up of each canvas.

My second project was a ton of fun to create.  This is a wooden box that had candy in it.  After my son ate the candy, I quickly snagged the box and stuck it on my scrap shelf.  OK to be truthful, I had dibs on the box even before my son finished the candy...who can blame me?   Can you tell I love a bargain and really love to repurpose items when ever I can?

The box is perfectly sized for some baby shoes so this will be a cute little "welcome home baby" gift.  Just tuck the shoes inside and eliminate the need for paper gift wrap.  Man - if I never have to buy gift wrap again, I'd be really happy.

The sweet Precious Elements stickers are wonderful accent pieces on top of my box.

FabScraps French Heritage Collection - Angel Hope Dreams & Wishes

FabScraps French Heritage Collection  (get your collection here)
FabScraps newest collection, French Heritage, is dripping with charm, warmth and spectacular florals. The collection has accompanying chipboard and diecuts that make this whole set spectacular.

Below is an image of the collection papers and die cuts.    The die cuts are cool because they are meant to be used with the chipboard if one desires - as a sort of chipboard covering.

I created a soft layout in keeping with the softness of  the papers. If you scroll down, you will see easy step by step instructions to complete this project.

My chipboard words, Dreams & Wishes was embossed with fine white embossing power but it looks a little aged because I did not paint the chipboard first.  I just embossed right over neked chipboard.

Here I have added Prima Marketing flowers for my finishing touch.

Thanks for stopping for a look.   Visit FabScraps blog and Facebook page for all the new releases.

For This Project You Will Need
Instructions
1.     Background Preparation:
2.     Start with FabScraps  French Heritage Butterfly Pink2 C63006  sheet.  Trim ¼ inch from each edge.
3.     Lightly dampen the edges with spray water or wet wipes.  Crinkle the edges gently with finger tips and blow dry with heat gun.  This stiffens the paper to form a nice rippled distressed edge.
4.     Ink the distressed edges.
5.     Glue to sheet of white cardstock.
6.     Punch four  12 inch strips with a decorative edge punch from  FabScraps French Heritage  Butterfly Pink2 C63006  sheet.  Tuck the punched edges under the distressed edges.
7.     Paint a whitewash ( paint mixed with water to thin it out) of white acrylic or gesso on the  center of the page.  After that dries, paint a whitewash of pink acrylic lightly over the white.
8.     Randomly stamp text over page.
9.     Glue photo to center of page.
10.   Glue decorative border to the page under the photo
11.    Chipboard Preparation:
12.   Using FabScraps French Heritage chipboard  Dreams & Wishes DC63007, emboss with white embossing powder.
13.   Set embossing powder with heat gun.
14.   Glue chipboard down
15.   Finishing Touches:
16.   Gently ink the edges of lace and tuck here and there under the distressed edges of background  layer.
17.   Glue some lace around the photo
18.   Embellish with flowers and ribbon.
19.   Enjoy!

Flying Unicorns Free Day

Hello!  Jennifer Snyder with you today posting a piece I created with the January Kit of the month.  This kit was a smashing success selling out in record time.  I loved each and every sheet of patterned paper that came in the kit (Prima Art Journal Paper 12x12 pad - designed by Jodie Lee) .  The kind of paper one doesn't want to cut or rip, yet is begging to be used.  I love the little crackle effect on the paper.

Anyway, I am not telling you this to make you weep because the kit is sold out.  I am merely reminding you that the monthly kit is available on a " first come, first served" - no monthly subscription obligation like most other clubs. You have to hop on the kit while it is available.  February kit is coming up sooner that you realize.

The chipboard oval frame came from Leaky Shed - very delicate and  ornate.  I covered my with white embossing powder.  Then I thought I'd start adorning my frame young lady.  This is my niece.  I took this photo almost two years ago.  We went out to a tea room for afternoon tea but before tea, she had to stop at Aunt Jennifer's house to get gussied up in Aunt Jen's fun ruffly skirt.  ( Good golly ....NO I do not wear this skirt - though there are some days when I would really like to.  hehehe)

I covered my mini chipboard word with Stampendous Adged Ivory embossing enamel.

Remember - stay tuned for  the dazzling fun February kit.
